Weed Control and Bee Inspections

Overview:

The primary goal of the Weed Control program is to provide prevention, suppression, and total eradication of weeds in the County right-of-way, canal banks, and railroad areas.

 

In Unincorporated Salt Lake County

Request for residential weed spraying for NOXIOUS weeds should be made by calling 468-2861 or filing a report with this form.

The primary goal of the Bee Inspector is to track migration of the bees and to move unwanted nests. The Bee Inspector is active during Spring, Summer, and Fall. Requests for Bee Inspections should be made through Operations 562-6418.

Commonly Asked Questions:

Does the spray cause any damage to other vegetation?

It can cause some problems. Spraying is not done on windy days or foul weather days. All precautions are taken to avoid any damage to desirable flowers and plants.

What if there is a vacant lot with overgrown weeds and how do they get taken care of?

For residential complaints for weeds in unincorporated Salt Lake County call the week hotline at 468-2861 The situation will be assessed. Or fill out the Citizen Concern Form.

What is a noxious weed?

There are 18 different varieties of noxious weeds. The County has designated the following weeds as noxious:

  1. Bermudagrass (Cynodon dactylon)
  2. Canada Thistle (Cirsium arvense)
  3. Diffuse Knapweed (Centaurea diffusa)
  4. Dyers Woad (Isatis tinctoria L.)
  5. Field Bindweed, Morning Glory
  6. Hoary Cress (Cardaria draba)
  7. Johnsongrass (Sorghum halepense)
  8. Leafy Spurge (Euphorbia esula)
  9. Medusahead Rye (Taeniatherum caput-medusae)
  10. Musk Thistle (Carduus nutans)
  11. Perennial Pepperweed (Lepidium latifolium)
  12. Purple Loosestrife (Lythrum salicaria)
  13. Quackgrass (Agropyron repens) (a.k.a. Elytrigia repens)
  14. Russian Knapweed (Acroptilon repens)
  15. Scotch Thistle (Onopordum acanthium)
  16. Spotted Knapweed (Centaurea maculosa)
  17. Squarrose Knapweed (Centaurea maculosa)
  18. Yellow Starthistle (Centaurea solstitialis)

Who maintains the trees, bushes planted in the Right of Way (parking strip)?

It is the homeowner’s responsibility to maintain the right of way which abuts the road in accordance with County Ordinance 14.44.010.
